Instagram has announced the launch of two new features, Auto Alternate Text and Custom Alternate Text, addressing visually impaired users on the platform.

The new tool will adopt AI Tech to provide users with an audio description of photos and create personalized descriptions.

The first feature introduced, Auto Alternate Text, will adopt object recognition technology to provide users with an audio description of photos. The second personalized alternative text, says Instagram, will offer users the opportunity to formulate a better adapted description of the photos when publishing content.

The new tools will be available for platform photos, on the user tracking wire, in the form of their own photos and on the exploration function.

"These are just the first steps towards creating a more accessible Instagram," said Instagram in a blog post.

However, the new feature comes with a certain user requirement, it can only be exploited by a screen reader software, an assistive technology for those who have troubles. learning such as visual or audio impairments.

"With over 285 million visually impaired people around the world, we know that many people could benefit from a more accessible Instagram," the company said.

The development of these new features follows the company's recently unveiled anti-harassment feature based on AI in October. In November, she announced the establishment of a tool to remove the inauthenticity of the platform.
