The Boko Haram have killed more Nigerian soldiers, mocking the vow of President Muhammadu Buhari to crush the jihadists.

According to reports, three soldiers died after the attack on their base in the northeastern state of Borno, near Lake Chad, last Tuesday.

Jihadists from the West African province (ISWAP) reportedly invaded the Cross Kauwa military base while driving several trucks.

"We lost three soldiers in the fight," said an officer in the US military who requested anonymity.
"The soldiers fought the terrorists but were controlled and had to withdraw from the base," he added.

A resident of Cross-Kauwa reportedly said the Islamists had trucks equipped with anti-aircraft guns.
"The insurgents fought the soldiers for three hours and forced them to abandon the base," said the resident who wanted to be identified only by his first name, Bukar, for fear of reprisals.

The loss comes just seven days after the killing of dozens of soldiers by Boko Haram, which prompted President Buhari to go to the front on Wednesday.

The president ordered the army to eliminate all Boko Haram threats and said the war on terror was "inescapable".

After visiting injured soldiers in hospitals in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, he gave the order by opening the 2018 annual conference of the Chief of Staff of l & # 39; army.

"It's a war to win. I wish to encourage our troops not to be distracted by speculation, but to remain focused and determined to eliminate Boko Haram from the face of the earth. "

He assured the military that he would continue to meet their manpower and equipment development needs, promising to improve their well-being and rights.

The President paid tribute to the soldiers who made sacrifices to preserve the peace, security and territorial integrity of the country.

President Buhari, who also addressed the army at the Maimalari barracks, headquarters of the Lafiya-Dole operation, said that he shared the pain of the loss of brave soldiers.

"I came to pay tribute to the brave soldiers lost by the nation and to console the wounded during the recent terrorist attacks.

"I urge you to stay focused and win the war," said the president.

He said: "In the run-up to the 2019 general election, I wish to urge all members of the military to assume their responsibilities and remain non-partisan.
