After the success of "Chernobyl," Sky and HBO are teaming up again, this time on "The Third Day." Jude Law will play the lead in the six-part version, which will be the first original of Sky Studios, the pay channel owned by Comcast. The new production unit of the television giant was announced Wednesday. Sky will be co-producing with Plan B, the immersive theater group Punchdrunk International, and writer and co-creator Dennis Kelly ("Utopia").

Law will play the main role of Sam, who, after being attracted by a mysterious island off the British coast, is immersed in the unusual world of its secret inhabitants. Isolated from the mainland, the island's rituals begin to overwhelm him and he is confronted with a trauma of his past. As the line between reality and fantasy fades, Sam finds himself plunged into a quest that puts him in conflict with the islanders.

Marc Munden ("National Treasury") will lead and Adrian Sturges ("Chimerica") the product.

"The third day is the result of the combined intoxicating imagination of Dennis Barrell and Felix Barrett of Punchdrunk International," said Cameron Roach, Sky U.K. and Sky Studios' Artistic Director. "Seeing them animated under the direction of Marc Munden and with Jude Law at the helm of what promises to be a world-class casting is an incredibly exciting prospect."

Casey Bloys, President of HBO Programming, said, "Dennis and Felix have created something new and unique, and we are excited to have it on HBO. We look forward to collaborating with Punchdrunk International, Marc and Jude and strengthening our relationship with Sky and Plan B Entertainment. "

The production of the third day will begin in July. It will be launched in the United Kingdom and HBO in the United States in 2020. Other upcoming series resulting from this partnership include "Gangs of London" by Gareth Evans, who will play on Cinemax, and "Catherine the Great", with Helen Mirren.
