Kate Middleton, smiling, has gone out for her first public release in 2019 while she goes to a North London community garden.

The Duchess of Cambridge arrived for the visit as it was announced that she had co-designed the RHS Back to Nature Garden at this year's RHS Chelsea Flower Show.

Kate, who has just turned 37, visits King Henry's Walk Garden in Islington to see how this ambitious project is helping the region.

The duchess will be offered a winter plantation workshop, a construction of birdhouses and even prepare a pizza over a wood fire in the kitchen of the garden.

The garden has been run for over ten years by community volunteers, with support from the Islington Council.

Kensington Palace announced the trip yesterday: "On Tuesday, January 15, the Duchess of Cambridge will visit the King Henry's Walk Community Garden Center in Islington.

"The duchess will meet with volunteers to understand how the project brings people together through gardening and food culture."

The garden, which is hidden in a busy London street, has been described as a "secret oasis" by local residents.

One person told The Gazette of Islington, "We love loneliness but obviously something of that [Kate’s visit] we want to shout roofs.

"We are very proud of the garden, which is run by a team of very strong community volunteers, very representative of Islington and Hackney."
