Former Tottenham and Republic of Ireland striker Robbie Keane has announced his retirement as a player.
The captain, 38, captain of his country for a decade, scored 325 goals in 737 appearances in 10 different clubs over a 23-year career.
"Today, after 23 wonderful years, I officially announce my retirement as a professional footballer", Keane said in a statement.
"From Crumlin United to Milan, London and Los Angeles, I could never have imagined the path that my football life was going to take. This exceeded all the hopes that I had as a crazy football boy who grew up in Dublin. "
Keane has played for groups like Wolves, Tottenham, Inter Milan, Leeds, Liverpool, Aston Villa, Coventry and LA Galaxy after arriving in England at the age of 15.
He is also the Republic's top scorer, scoring 68 goals in 146 games before retiring from international football in 2016.
New Director of the Republic, Mick McCarthy, appointed Keane as assistant last week, along with Terry Connor, following the recent departure of Martin O'Neill.
"Playing and running my country has been the highlight of my career," he said.
"I have enjoyed every moment of the most incredible trip with the Irish team over a period of 18 years and, as I have said many times before, words can only express how much I am proud to be Irish. "
Keane arrived in England with the Wolves in 1997 and went to Coventry for £ 6m after two seasons in the first team.
He then moved to Inter Milan (£ 13m) and Leeds (£ 12m) before spending six years in Tottenham.
"I had the great privilege of representing and capitalizing on Tottenham for 238 games. I had a great time there and I will be back on my life at White Hart Lane. The club will always have a special place in my heart, "he said.
Liverpool paid more than 20 million pounds for Tottenham to sign Keane in 2008, but returned to White Hart Lane six months later.
After borrowing from Celtic and West Ham, he moved with his family to Los Angeles, where he spent "five extremely successful and rewarding years with and on the ground with LA Galaxy".
Keane added, "For all those who believed in me, who supported me and who came to pick me up when I needed a hand, you can never know at what point. point all of this represented. It was an honor to represent you.
