Kirinyaga Governor, Anne Waiguru, gave Wednesday a lecture at the Royal Institute of International Affairs, commonly known as Chatham House in London, UK on Wednesday.

The former cabinet secretary delivered the speech as Vice Chair of the Board of Governors (COG), an umbrella body for the country's 47 county chiefs.

Waiguru's speech was based on the title: "Five Years of Devolution in Kenya: Towards Inclusion, Gender Equality and Responsible Governance."

In his speech, the Governor congratulated President Kenyatta on his recent commitment to the war against corruption and the abuse of office of officials

mentioned the lifestyle audit recently ordered by the President, calling it a grand step toward the end of corruption

"A huge problem in Kenyan politics is the pressure of families who want to benefit from their loved ones. That is why the President has rightly opted for the audit, "said Waiguru

but Waiguru expressed fears that the fight against corruption could be politicized or used to settle political accounts. "But the new Constitution has been an important step forward," she told the audience.

On the participation of women in politics and leadership, Waiguru said that Kenya was heading in the right direction. "There were a lot of challenges for me running for the governor's seat as a woman. But I knew my campaign would have a broader meaning for Kenyan women and girls who have traditionally been marginalized in politics, "she said. I am determined that after the next election, we will have at least 11 housekeepers in Office. The problem with the support of male governors on this is that they think we are after their seats, "she told the audience.

She also touched on the achievements and challenges to which the country has faced in the implementation of decentralization. "

" The central government assistance to the counties included capacity building, the development of model laws and the implementation of decentralization. " Institutional reviews to make sure the skills match the mandates, "she said.
