BERLIN (Reuters) – The president of the German company Lufthansa (LHAG.DE) said that there were still too many airlines in Europe and that he hoped that the company would participate in further consolidation of the sector, which would ultimately leave three global carriers on the continent.

"There are far too many actors in Europe," Carsten Spohr said at a meeting of the Aviation Center in Berlin on Tuesday, noting that six airlines had gone bankrupt over the past few years. month.

"It is obvious that the consolidation will continue to act and we, as Lufthansa, want to be part of it," he said. "There will most likely be three major European network operators or groups of operators, plus one or two low-cost operators."

Lufthansa has been at the forefront of a frenzy in the sector mergers and acquisitions sector, capturing Brussels Airlines and part of the insolvent Air Berlin last year to make progress on the competitive budget market.
