Matt Lauer tackled the "hard times" that he experienced during his first interview since he was fired from the broadcast Today last November in reason for alleged sexual misconduct.
The 60-year-old journalist spoke with Checkpoint of Radio New Zealand with John Campbell about a property problem concerning his ranch in New Zealand. Lauer bought a $ 13 million rent from Hunter Valley Station Ranch before his sexual harassment scandal broke out, and he is now fighting with government groups who want Lauer to grant more access to hikers and hunters. Hunter Valley Station is the only communication route to Hawea Conservation Park.
Lauer is against servitude, and says that groups "profit" from the fallout of his highly publicized sexual misconduct scandal.
"I believe that the groups that are behind this are somehow sadly enjoying I've gone through difficult times in the last six months and I think they see me as a easy mark, "says Lauer. "And what they'll try to do, is to get through, which would set a precedent because it's never been done before with a pastoral lease holder or a landlord without the consent of that person. "
"In the year and a half or a year more than I owned, I invested hundreds of thousands of dollars to improve the property and now a year later they come and say, "Oh wait a minute, we've given you this lease under this set We'd like to change the rules," says Lauer. "I do not think it's right."
Lauer said that He was open to "exploring" the compensation if an easement is granted.In the meantime, the Walking Access Commission and the Department of Conservation, which seeks servitude, argue that since the land belongs technically to the government, the public should have better access.
