POOLER, Ga. (WSAV) – Mosquito samples collected in the Pooler area have tested positive for West Nile virus
At present, no human cases of West Nile Virus (WNV) have been confirmed in the counties of the coastal health district, including Chatham.
But that means that the WNV circulates mosquito populations.
According to Mosquito Control, staff are monitoring all of Chatham County and planning control operations.
The Chatham County Health Department and Mosquito Control urge residents to take precautions now and during the rest of the summer to minimize mosquitoes around their property. :
– Get rid of stagnant water or objects that may contain water
– Clean up debris around homes and yards
– "Tip & Water" # 39; n Toss "flowerpots, planters, toys, wading pools, buckets, etc. after each rain
– Frequent change of pet food outdoors
– Change of bath water for 2x bird per week
– Avoid using saucers under plants potted outdoor

– Dusk / Dawn: Avoid twilight and dawn activities during the summer when mosquitoes are most active
– Dress code: Wear loose shirts and pants to reduce the amount of skin exposed
– DEET: Cover exposed skin with an insect repellent containing DEET, which is the most effective repellent against mosquito bites
– Drain: Empty all containers with stagnant water as they are for mosquitoes carrying viruses
