Tanzanian President John Magufuli, criticized for his authoritarian leadership style, promised that his ruling party would be "in power forever, forever."

In a speech broadcast on radio Magufuli said Monday that opponents of his party Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) would "still have problems".

His intervention is the latest in a series of controversial comments that included a suggestion over the weekend that prisoners be made to work "day and night" and receive kicks when they are lazy.

"The CCM is here and will continue to be here – forever. CCM members, you can walk with your head up. There is no alternative to the CCM, "said Magafuli at a grand opening ceremony of a new training center in Kibaha, near the economic capital of Dar es Salaam.

The installation of $ 45 million (38.4 million euros) is funded by a donation from China and will be dedicated to Julius Nyerere, the founding father of modern Tanzania and Founder of the CCM.

Magufuli, who came to power in 2015, has already angered the advocacy groups of his campaigns against homosexuality and calls for banning pregnant girls from schools
