NSW jumps to second place with overwhelming victory

Surprisingly, Western Australia succumbed to a massive 104-point loss by helping New South Wales to move up to second place in the Shield scoreboard.

Defined as a goal of 317 to continue in the fourth inning, NSW had reduced the home team to 115 for 6 by the strains on day 3 itself. Marcus Stoinis, who had extended his match three weeks earlier with fifty unbeaten players, was WA's only hope, alongside Ashton Agar.

But it took less than four NSW players to attack the fourth morning, eliminating Agar for a 24 of 44 balls to end the stubborn position of the seventh wicket. Stoinis' is associated with Cameron Green for another valuable support, worth 37, but almost as soon as the partnership was broken – the first one missing his century before 19 – WA's fight was essentially completed. The resistance of Green and Matthew Kelly led to 200 but could not prevent a crushing defeat at home.
