Pretoria, South Africa (ADV) – South African President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to use the G20 summit, to be held tomorrow, as a platform to promote and strengthen the interests of the African continent and its continent. country.
The country also sees the G20 as providing significant opportunities for advancing global governance reforms and reorienting the international development agenda.

The G20 was formed in 1999 to bring stability to the global financial system, promote long-term sustainable growth, and strengthen global financial governance.

The G20, which includes the major developed and developing economies, accounts for 85 percent of the world's gross domestic product, 80 percent of world trade, and two-thirds of the world's population.

However, it has since expanded its agenda beyond economic and financial issues to encompass geopolitical issues and issues of peace and security, global governance, environment and international terrorism.

The summit, which is expected to be chaired by Argentine President Mauricio Macri, is expected to be the first G20 summit to be attended by Ramaphosa since he has assumed leadership of the African National Congress (ANC) and South Africa.

Argentina assumed the presidency of the G20 in November 2017 and has focused throughout the year on "Building Consensus for Just and Sustainable Development" – a theme that resonates well with the President Ramaphosa's emphasis on the importance of consensus and collaboration in South Africa's efforts. build an inclusive and sustainable economy and promote social cohesion.

According to the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO), during this working visit, President Ramaphosa will hold bilateral meetings with various heads of state to strengthen and deepen relations with partner countries. and to present South Africa as an attractive investment destination and trading partner. .

President Ramaphosa is also expected to chair a summit of BRICS leaders on the sidelines of the G20. This will be the last meeting of BRICS leaders chaired by South Africa before Brazil assumes its presidency on 1 January 2019.

The Leaders' Summit will be supplemented by meetings of G20 Finance Ministers.
Ramaphosa is accompanied by Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Lindiwe Sisulu and Finance Minister Tito Mboweni.
