Sprint announced on Wednesday that it was working with HTC to create a "powerful 5G mobile smart hub" that will be launched at some point in the first half of 2019. But from the outset, the carrier's press release tells us that it's not going to happen. it can not do much to share about this gadget: "the name of the device, the specifications of the feature and the timing will be shared at a later date", so that this gadget for dot d & # 39; 39; 5G mobile access looks like a vaporware.

That's not to say that Sprint and HTC will not launch this "advanced device will offer connected multimedia and data capabilities in a compact and portable design" next year. But, for the moment, specific details about the gadget are not available. We have no idea what price it will cost either. The images in this HTC product were not shared either.

It's also unclear whether HTC's unnamed device will continue to work after the merger of T-Mobile and Sprint.
What Sprint said is that HTC will use Qualcomm's Snapdragon X50 5G modem to create the mobile hotspot. This is not a surprise, as the X50 is expected to power several other 5G devices next year.

It's important to note that the 5G Mobile Smart Hub will allow users to access Sprint's 5G network on their existing smartphones, laptops and tablets. This means that you should be able to test the 5G without waiting for the provider of your favorite smartphone to launch a 5G handset. However, Sprint's 5G will initially be deployed in only nine markets. You will therefore benefit from Sprint 5G support only in Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Kansas City, Los Angeles, New York, Phoenix and Washington, D.C.

The HTC gadget will be Sprint's second 5G device next year. A few months ago, the carrier announced a partnership with LG for a 5G smartphone, although we do not have specific details about this product either.

Samsung is expected to unveil next year a 5G version of the Galaxy S10. According to a recent report, Verizon could benefit from an exclusive deal. OnePlus is another handset maker that has confirmed its intention to launch a 5G phone next year. In China, Xiaomi has already announced that one of its latest flagship products would be available in 5G version, but this model is not yet available to buyers.
