Let's be clear: Theresa May's agreement on the Brexit is a crushing victory for the EU, no matter how you cut it. On March 29, 2019, our country will effectively become a vassal state during the 21 months of the transition period – in compliance with all EU rules but without siege at the table.

The EU will push us through as we strive to turn the vague and open political declaration into a legally binding long-term relationship, as the December 2020 cliff looms larger and larger.

The government is essentially asking us to pledge 39 billion pounds of taxpayers' money in exchange for the most expensive blindfold in history. How can we vote for this leap into darkness, as we face the prospect of transferring the power of the British parliament, not only to the leaders of the conservative party, but to the EU?

When our country voted to "regain control," that's certainly not what we had in mind?

May's strategy, of course, is to convince members to vote in favor of his agreement by saying that rejecting it is tantamount to supporting a non-agreement. But that has always been an empty threat. I sit on the select committee of Brexit and I hear a lot of evidence about the chaos that would bring no agreement, which means that Parliament will just not let that happen. The EU, whose number one priority is to ensure an orderly Brexit, will not do it either.

So, after calling the bluff without May's agreement, the parliament will have three options: either a) call a general election by a motion of censure, or b) instruct the government to legislate for a referendum, or c) amend the Political Declaration. and instruct the government to secure the EU's agreement on the new conditions.

I would like nothing more than the opportunity to end this incompetent shower, but would the Conservatives and the DUP really allow it? Turkeys do not vote for Christmas. And while I voted to stay, Parliament is already despised by millions of people. A second referendum, before we leave the EU, is therefore likely to drive another nail into the gulf of our parliamentary democracy and deepen our country. Split.

In addition, these two options would be subject to the unanimous vote of the EU-27 for the extension of Article 50, which is far from being acquired in advance.

This leaves the option c). For more than two years, I have argued that a Brexit based on the European Economic Area and a form of customs union – or "Norway Plus" – is the only viable option for the following reasons:

n We would regain legal sovereignty, the EEA falling within the competence of the EFTA Court, which has no direct effect on national law. This is in stark contrast to the arbitration system proposed in the Prime Minister's agreement, which allows the Court of Justice of the European Communities to be fully competent by the back door. The idea that in EFTA we would be a vassal state of the EU if we were in the EEA is nonsense.

This would solve the problem of the Irish frontier because, by definition, it is a solution on a British scale. a fact that has not gone unnoticed by the DUP.

The EEE actually exists. It is a well-established and fully ratified organization that would finally bring us to the fore, and the transitional period would serve mainly to refine the EFTA Convention so that we can participate in a customs union with the EU.

n Britain could pave the way for a new multi-level Europe. President Macron and other European leaders have made clear their opposition to the EU's global and top-down approach to integration. By leaving the EU and joining the EEA, the UK would become the spearhead of a new group of 'outer circle' countries that do not participate in the political project while retaining full market participation.

n He commands a parliamentary majority. In June, 76 Labor MPs challenged the whip to vote in favor of the Lords' EEA amendment to the trade bill – the biggest rebellion in history in the world of work. House-wide discussions show that a large number of Conservative MPs will support an EEA-based Brexit as soon as the Prime Minister's agreement is rejected. If only one of the main parties were to agree, he would be sure to have a majority.

Finally, the EEA and a customs union are the only Brexit form that succeeds in completing all six Labor tests. It also honors our conference resolution's commitment to "participate fully" in the single market.

Our country is not only polarized, it is paralyzed. Communities and families are divided and the parliament is immobilized. A Brexit based on Norway Plus would be a solid compromise in the national interest, and it is only through compromises that we can get out of this constitutional crisis.
