The Lindi District Lindi District Court sentenced Selemani Moses Sotel, alias White, to life imprisonment and 30 years in prison for sexual assault on a minor

Resident magistrate in charge, Franco Kiswaga sentenced the 25-year-old man to two counts of unnatural offense and rape, after being convinced by the evidence presented by the prosecution witnesses.

Having been convicted of the offenses, the rapist was sentenced to life imprisonment for years in prison for rape. The magistrate ruled that both sentences would run concurrently.

The Magistrate ruled that the evidence presented by five prosecution witnesses proved beyond reasonable doubt that the accused had committed the offenses.

According to the prosecution conducted by Abdulrahim Mohamed and Emanuel John, the 13-year-old girl (unpublished) was raped on August 8, 2017 in the Jamhuri area in the municipality of Lindi.

Before imposing sentences, the prosecution had asked the court to severely punish the man since he was a habitual delinquent, which meant it was not the first time that he was convicted of a criminal offense.

Prosecutors also informed the trial court that the sentence to be imposed also had to take into account the age of the victim.
