SERENGETI District received 400m / -more for the ongoing construction of the district hospital, which is expected to be completed by next September. District Commissioner (CD) Nurdin Babu is optimistic that the funds will help finish the remaining parts of the construction works.

Dr. Deo Kisaka, District Physician, said the hospital was designed to serve local residents and tourists from different parts of the world to see the incredible flora and fauna in the western Serengeti.
Dr. Kisaka said, with modern medical surgical equipment, was supported by the African Development Bank (AfD) at 488m / -. The government has also provided millions of shillings to build the hospital at different intervals. The project started in 2009, according to Serengeti officials
Vice President Samia Suluhu Hassan laid the foundation stone for the construction of the hospital during a working visit to the Mara region many months ago. Once completed, the hospital will cut reference cases at the Mara Regional Hospital and Bugando Reference Hospital in Musoma and Mwanza, respectively
. The completion of the new hospital will see Mugumu, the district capital, endowed with two large hospitals, several health centers and dispensaries to serve the current population of about 360,000 inhabitants.
