The Tanzanian Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (TCCIA) has launched the "One Product, One Product" program to improve agricultural practices that save water more intelligently and efficiently. to improve water management.
Idd Senge, regional secretary of TCCIA Dodoma, said yesterday that the program was vital for the Dodoma region because of the weather and soils, adding that the central zone had a rainy season, hence the need for Better water management for agricultural activities.
"Every district in the Dodoma region has been blessed with ideal weather and soil conditions for growing cash crops, but these rare opportunities still have to be fully exploited to meet the challenges facing the agricultural sector," he said. he declared.
Senge said the TCCIA was in talks with the Tanzania Agricultural Development Bank (TADB) to facilitate the implementation of the "One Drop, One Product (ODOP)" project in the region.
ODOP focuses on the identification and marketing of the main cash crops grown in each district of the Dodoma region and establishes processing plants for these crops.
Mr. Senge pointed out that, in accordance with the plan, the program would help farmers in all districts to ensure that they used high quality seed varieties and applied the recommended agronomic methods.
If all goes well, according to him, the plan will also help install crop plants in each district to provide added value to crops and a chance to enter the international market.
"TADB support will help farmers adopt best agricultural practices," he added.
He noted that initially, TCCIA had acquired 2,000 acres in the Chemba district for cassava cultivation. "The region will be used for growing cassava, but we also want to set up a cassava processing plant for cassava starch and animal feed," he said. .
