The National Geographic 2018 Travel Photographer's Award Winners

The 2018 National Geographic Travel Photographer of the Year announced his winners and the photos are as beautiful as you expect from them.

Photographers from around the world have submitted images that reveal people, places and cultures of the world. The jury of National Geographic was looking for photos that "tell the story of a place and travel times that inspire others to explore our world."

The contest received more than 13,000 entries of amateurs and professionals in three categories: nature, people and cities. The Grand Prize winner received $ 10,000 and was named Travel Photographer of the Year 2018 by National Geographic . In addition to the Grand Prize, two other category winners received $ 2,500 each.

This year Japanese photographer Reiko Takahashi won the grand prize (see cover photo). The winning photograph, entitled Mermaid shows a humpback whale off the coast of the island of Kumejima .
