Turn off your WiFi on your phone due to poor download speeds? You are not alone.
According to an OpenSignal study, 33 countries have faster average mobile network speeds than WiFi, while it was the reverse ten years ago.
The largest gap (13 megabytes) comes from Australia, where the average speed of WiFi is 21.6 Mbps, while the speed of the mobile network is 34.6 Mbps.

Lebanon, Qatar, Oman and Greece are also among the top five countries with much faster mobile networks than WiFi, in this order, where there is at least a gap of 10 megabits.
This is the reverse in countries like the United States and Hong Kong, where the average speed of WiFi exceeds mobile networks. This will change as the next generation of mobile network, 5G, will be deployed on a large scale in the years to come.
In four countries, you will experience a "dead heat", where there is no significant difference between the speed of the WiFi network and that of the mobile network: Hungary, Bangladesh , Belgium and Norway.
OpenSignal said the results of the study show that mobile operators and smartphone manufacturers need to reevaluate WiFi dependence.
For the moment, Wi-Fi still reigns because of its lower cost and capacity than cell towers, but we'll see that soon enough.
