Kampala – Ugandan authorities are not expecting to find more survivors after the capsizing of a cluttered ship on Lake Victoria this weekend. Dozens of dead more feared than the official number of 34 dead.

Twenty-six people were saved, but the authorities estimate that the overloaded boat was carrying more than 100 people.

"We have suspended the search on Monday and resume tomorrow, but for now, we are not expecting any survivors," said police spokesman Patrick Onyango on Wednesday.

The government has announced that a national day of mourning would be held on Friday. The flags will fly half personal to the victims of the sea accident – one of the worst in the history of this country of East Africa.

The accident occurred Saturday night near the beach Mutima, about twenty kilometers south of the capital, Kampala. The police attributed the disaster to overload and the poor mechanical condition of the vessel.

Boat accidents are common in many Ugandan lakes due to overload, bad weather and old ships.
