The Mines Commission, a component of the Tanzanian Ministry of Mines (MoM) responsible for issuing new mining licenses, would be ready to consider multi-application -Active Kibo Mining plc energy company (Kibo), specializing in Africa, for a special mining license (SML) for its Mbeya Coal to Power project (MCPP) in southwestern Tanzania. This evolution follows the inclusion of a Local Content Plan (LCP) and the Integrity Commitment (IP) announced by the MoM on July 13, 2018.
Kibo also plans to submit a mining permit application to 3T18 for its Mabesekwa Coal Independent Power Mabesekwa Project) in Botswana, where it is developing a project similar to the MCPP.
Kibo CEO Louis Coetzee said, "This latest development regarding the finalization of the SML for the mining component of the MCPP is welcome as we now have a clearly defined procedure to follow in the new mining law to finalize our existing SML application Kibo will give priority to the Mining Commission with the LCP and the IP in the next two weeks, ensuring that our SML application is fully compliant and ready for review With the LCP and IP rules now clearly defined and in place, there are no outstanding components to the SML application, however Kibo has always complied with almost all LCP and IP requirements, even before they become requirements
