Weinstein's lawyers demand rejection of the sexual assault case

NEW YORK – Harvey Weinstein's lawyer said his sexual assault case turned into a mess of lying witnesses and hidden evidence and should be dismissed.

Attorney General Benjamin Brafman said Thursday that defense investigators had uncovered evidence raising doubts about Weinstein's accusers.

He added that the defense had spoken to a friend of one of the accusers, who had stated that the alleged victim and Weinstein had "been sticking" in a consensual way for a long time.

Brafman stated that the friend had felt compelled to corroborate the rape allegation of the woman but had "refused to tell a story".

Weinstein's team also believes that the police made a phone call shortly before his arrest between the film producer and one of his accusers, but that it did not produce incriminating evidence.

The Manhattan Attorney's Office did not have an immediate response.
