Where is our midfielder beyond Roberto Firmino – The former Liverpool star sees the number

Former Liverpool midfielder Nigel Spackman admitted that the Reds needed a more dynamic midfielder to deal with a situation where Roberto Firmino was not at his best.

Jurgen Klopp has chosen to field midfielder James Milner, Jordan Henderson and Georginio Wijnaldum in the crucial Champions League match with Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday.

This did not work, however. The Ligue 1 champions made the best use of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe to pass around the rings of the unlucky midfielders of the Parc des Princes, on the way to victory 2-1.

Liverpool suffered a lot from Firmino's bad display and the Brazilian struggled to pull the strings that would help the Reds run at their optimal level.

The former Liverpool midfielder, Spackman, believes that when Firmino lost color, the Reds are in dire need of a midfielder able to overtake him.

Spackman, who spent two years at Anfield, think Liverpool should offer a better midfield option than the Milner, Henderson and Wijnaldum trio to deal with such a situation.

The former Reds midfielder also added that summer rookie Naby Keita was the obvious choice, but pointed out that it would take a little while to do it.

"When Firmino gets ahead, we sometimes have to have one of the midfield players who overtakes him"Spackman said on CFL television.

"I do not think in the three we play there, we really have that.

"Keita will be able to do it.

"Wijnaldum does it from time to time but James Milner, who was exceptional, does not really do it, Hendo does not do it.

"Sometimes you have to change things a bit and when you play three, you can maybe put [Sadio] Mane in the middle with his rhythm to disturb the defenders. "

The loss to PSG means Liverpool lost three consecutive road games in the Champions League group stage for the first time in its history.
