Zim's investigation into post-voting violence presents findings to Mnangagwa

HARARE – The commission investigating the deadly shooting in Harare on August 1 after the elections by the army on Thursday presented a summary of its findings to President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

"Today, the commission has presented to the president what we call a summary, while the full report will be presented this Saturday," said commission spokesman John Masuku.

"In short, what I'm saying is, yes, the report is complete, but we sent it to government printers for printing and binding and it will be presented to the president and the public this Saturday."

The commission, chaired by former South African President Kgalema Motlanthe, made his presentation two days after the end of the public hearings. The full report is expected to be completed by November 31.

The commission opened its hearings in Harare on 16 October with senior security officials, such as the commander of the Zimbabwe Defense Forces, Valerio Sibanda, the tactical commander of the Presidential Guard and the National Reaction Force, the brigadier -General Anselem Nhamo Sanyatwe; Police Commissioner Godwin Matanga and the Commander of the Chief Superintendent of Harare Province, Albert Ncube, testify.

MDC leader Nelson Chamisa, his party's deputy national president, Tendai Biti, the former interior minister, and Zanu PF administration secretary Obert Mpofu also testified. .

When Mnangagwa appointed the commission on August 29, he gave him three months to report to him.
