Tar Heels always in pursuit of this 5 stars

The UNC Basketball program is still looking for a five-star prospect in the 2021 recruiting class as they hope to land a big fish for this cycle.

After securing engagements from four-star prospects Dontrez Styles and D’Marco Dunn, UNC has been silent since the summer in terms of adding talent. They missed a handful of rookies they were interested in, but argued that Hunter Sallis, Chet Holmgren and Patrick Baldwin are their last three goals.

While Baldwin and Holmgren haven’t really revealed when they’ll make a decision, Sallis is expected to announce it in March.

The Nebraska Five Star Combo Guard is the first target left of UNC and he really needs it to land for this class. However, in the last few months it looks like the tar heels have faded a bit in this recruiting and are sitting here in third place in the March decision behind Gonzaga and Kentucky.

While the Bulldogs appear to be the favorites in the decision, that hasn’t stopped the Tar Heels from contacting Sallis and still trying to get it right.

Eric Bossi of 247 Sports spoke to Sallis about his recruiting situation and he mentioned a few teams that contact him regularly:

With his decision in about six weeks, Sallis did not give up any clues. He said he was still in the final stages of the decision-making process and was still talking to several of his finalists.

“I’ve spoken to Iowa State, Creighton, Gonzaga, North Carolina, Kentucky, and Kansas,” Sallis said. “These are the schools I talk to the most.”

The Tar Heels may have a chance to land Sallis, but with his importance to the 2021 class, Roy Williams and his staff aren’t backing down just yet. Sallis would be a big addition to the 2021 class and fill a great need for a goalie on the wing.

But they have work to do by the end of March.
