Target, UPS, Amazon and Kohl's recruit seasonal workers for the 2019 holidays

We have barely shed light on the month of September and yet, behind the scenes of the head office, retailers are already preparing for the Christmas shopping season.

This week, Target and UPS have officially announced their recruitment plans for the holidays. They represent more than 230,000 seasonal workers between the two companies.

Amazon, shortly after the announcement of its Career Day, that the company will hire more than 30,000 permanent employees, also announced plans to recruit tens of thousands of seasonal workers for the holidays. Kohl's opened its seasonal applications in July but still boasts thousands of live concerts in stores and distribution centers, and more to come.

Target

Target plans to hire 125,000 seasonal members in more than 1,800 stores across the country. Responsibilities range from customer service to shelf storage.

UPS plans to hire approximately 100,000 seasonal workers to meet increased demand for parcel delivery from November 2019 to January 2020. Full-time and part-time positions include stevedores, drivers and driver assistants.

Some seasonal employees will hire temporary facilities built especially for the holidays. UPS estimates that the holiday marine business will double its usual average of 20 million deliveries a day.

Associated Press reports that UPS has paid an average of $ 10.10 per hour to seasonal workers in 2018. This year, under a new work contract, the salary starts at $ 14 a year. the hour and can go up to 30 dollars for truck drivers. Some competitive markets may offer higher wages and potential bonuses.

In addition to hourly pay, eligible seasonal employees who are students can earn up to US $ 1,300 in university fees for three months of continuous employment through the Earn and Learn program at UPS. Amazon has not yet released official figures, but plans to hire "tens of thousands" of seasonal workers before the holiday season. All US employees will earn at least the minimum wage of the company, set at $ 15 per hour.
