Google’s next chapter in the design language, Material You, is the most personal and customizable yet, offering a vibrant background-based theme for a particularly colorful and sparkling look. A bunch of apps have already picked up the dynamic theme from Android 12, and Tasker is the latest to jump on the bandwagon.

The most recent beta version v5.13 (Update: The now stable version!) Automatically changes the interface colors to match your wallpaper, but that’s not all: you can even use these Material You colors and implement them in your own Tasker project. This could come in handy if you are looking to add a splash of color to your regular workflows.

If you’re already in the beta on the Google Play Store, you should have already received update 5.13 – not that you need to do this now that it’s stable, but the Venn diagram of people who use Tasker and people who run beta apps is almost a circle. You can also grab the latest update from APK Mirror. Enabling the Material You theme is as easy as heading to Preferences> UI> Theme> Material You.

It goes without saying, but you will need to be on Android 12 to see the dynamic theme in action.

That’s not all that’s new with the update, however. There are a bunch of fixes and improvements, and you can check out the full changelog here.

Beta release and exit … ahead of time? In front of Google anyway

The changes made by Tasker’s Material You in v5.13 are no longer in beta – a bit odd, given that at least some of the visual changes are still not fully documented or finalized by Google, but we’re sure the Developer João Dias can handle any issues that might arise at short notice.
