Spirits ignited in the San Diego Padres dugout as the Brothers faced the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium on Saturday.

Star infielders Fernando Tatis Jr. and Manny Machado exchanged harsh words in the visitors’ dugout, with Machado yelling loudly at Tatis. The teammates had to separate the two before finally taking their respective positions on the pitch.

The incident took place shortly after Tatis was struck out while watching in inning five, according to Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Manager Jayce Tingler praised Machado’s leadership but did not discuss the details of the matter after the game.

The Padres struggled a lot in the second half after high expectations heading into the season. The club’s slide continued on Saturday when the Cardinals returned in the eighth inning to claim a 3-2 victory, losing San Diego 2 1/2 games behind the last wild card spot.
