Singer Taylor Dayne has come out on her defense after being criticized for performing at a New Years event at President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida.
Dayne was one of the few performers to take the stage at the annual celebration the President himself has attended for the past three years. This time he returned to Washington, DC a day earlier, but his children Tiffany, Eric and Donald Trump Jr. were there, along with his personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani.
Many criticized the singer for his performance at the event amid the coronavirus pandemic. The New York Times reported that many of the guests in attendance were not wearing masks and that the party itself, which was held indoors, violated some of Florida’s restrictions.
Dayne’s performance at the President’s party was understood as a tacit show of support.

In response to a criticism, Dayne defended herself in a since-deleted tweet.
“I am saddened by all of this. I have a 30-year career with many diverse friendships. And I try to stay apolitical and non-judgmental and not to preach. I sing from my heart purely and from Home. I wish everyone to be who they need to be… and find their way, ”wrote the“ Masked Singer ”contestant (via Just Jared).

Dayne was not the only celebrity to be criticized by fans for performing at the Mar-a-Lago event. Rapper Vanilla Ice took to the heat after Donald Trump Jr. shared a video on Facebook showing the “Ice Ice Baby” singer performing at the New Year’s Eve gala.
“Ok that’s amazing. Vanilla Ice is playing at the Mar-a-Lago New Years party. As a kid of the 90s, you can’t imagine how awesome it is,” a sub- titled Trump Jr. in the video. “Beyond that, I got the birthday cry so it’s pretty amazing.”

Other artists included Teri Nunn, lead singer of the new-wave group of the 1970s and 1980s, as well as Al Jardine and Mike Love of the Beach Boys.
According to the New York Times, tickets for the event would cost $ 1,000.
