Taylor Swift does not seem to stay out of the news. This week alone, the singer-songwriter gave a concert on Hello America and also announced that she would re-record all her old albums. Swift also appears in the coveted September issue of Vogue. If that were not enough, Swift's much anticipated seventh studio album, Lover falls tomorrow. Despite all of Swift's recent victories, fans have still managed to stumble on things on Facebook that could be the source of much controversy.
Lover
Fans are particularly excited about the personality Lover is meant to be. Swift confessed that her seventh album was her favorite and she mentioned that she was not hesitant to tell her truth in this new phase of her music. More specifically, Swift becomes musically political for the first time. Witness her words and her video for "You Need To Calm Down," where she openly shows her support for the LGBT community.
"I really think that the new music I've created has a political connotation. I do not plan to stop encouraging young people to vote and try to get them to talk about what is happening in our country. I think this is one of the most important things I can do, "said Swift about Lover in an interview with a German media.
Taylor Swift's father
Unfortunately, for the 29-year-old singer, Taylor Swift is not the only Swift to have made politics. Yesterday, fans managed to find memes and messages right that the composer's father (Scott K. Swift) published on his Facebook page. What started as a joke that his father posted quickly turned into something that required damage control.
Taylor replies on Tumblr
"Taylor and Austin said I had to step on my phone. Phone wrapped in a towel, attached with rubber bands and put the dryer on "cool". Place 10,000 steps on the phone, watching the golf. I felt good! They were right, "wrote Swift's father on his Facebook page jokingly. Swift quick has posted the message on his Tumblr page, responding with a clear message that is called T. Swift. "This man must be arrested. The parents in freedom. Where does he find the nerve? More guitar choices for him, "replied the 29-year-old.
FB positions on the right
Shortly after, fans went to explore Scott K. Swift's Facebook page. Many were surprised to see that he had republished very offensive memes that highlighted his right-wing views as recently as January. In addition, he himself wrote articles in which he congratulated Nancy Reagan, particularly unhappy with the LGBT community for the silence of her and her husband in the face of the HIV / AIDS epidemic. Shortly after fans noticed, Swift immediately removed the message from his Tumblr page and Scott K. Swift's Facebook account was disabled.
In the end, we are not surprised that Swift's father publishes memes of the right like this one. Of course, we can see why the fans are disappointed, but we are sure that many people have favors with parents who have super problematic beliefs. Of course, we would have liked Swift to take the opportunity to use this teaching moment, but we do not expect much from a woman who has just begun to share her political views a few years ago.
Swift sings a different tune
Although suppressing the message and turning off the page seems to put issues under the carpet, we do not know what Swift could have done more to solve the problem privately. In the end, her father's views do not necessarily reflect his own and we can understand why she would like to stand out from them. We are just happy that Swift is using its platform and enormous influence to promote more diverse and inclusive ideals.
