Taylor Swift addressed her writing pseudonym in a new artist-on-artist interview with Paul McCartney.
The pop star, who spoke with the Beatles legend this week Rolling stone, said that “no one has known for a while” about his co-writing on the 2016 Calvin Harris (feat. Rihanna) song ‘This Is What You Came For’. She disguised herself as Nils Sjöberg.
“I wrote under the name Nils Sjöberg because they are two of the most popular names for Swedish men,” Swift told McCartney. “I wrote this song called ‘This Is What You Came For’ that Rihanna ended up singing. And nobody knew it for a while. I remember always hearing that when Prince wrote “Manic Monday” they didn’t reveal it for a few months.
McCartney added to the discussion, “Yes, it also proves that you can do anything without the fame tag. I did something for Peter and Gordon; My girlfriend’s brother and his mate were in a group called Peter and Gordon. And I wrote under the name of Bernard Webb.
Swift’s co-writing on the Harris single was revealed a few months after its April 2016 release. She reportedly first used the pseudonym, Nils Sjöberg, for this song in order to keep the focus on the music and not on the song. her relationship with Harris, with whom she dated for 15 months between 2015 and 2016.
Elsewhere in the interview, McCartney revealed that he wanted to invite Swift on stage with him at Glastonbury 2020 to perform ‘Shake It Off’ together.
The pair were due to headline the Pyramid Stage at this year’s festival before it was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The duo also discussed their two quarantine albums. In July, Swift released a new album ‘Folklore’, which she produced largely with the National’s Aaron Dessner during the lockout.
McCartney, meanwhile, recently announced a new solo album ‘McCartney III’, ending the 40-year wait for the completion of his eponymous album trilogy.
