A New Jersey man was smashed into Taylor Swift's seaside home – and told the police that he had removed his shoes "to be polite," officials said.

Richard Joseph McEwan, 26, responded to a phone alert that a man jumping from the gate outside the Rhode Island beach house was outside the house.

After spotting the police, McEwan began running – but was quickly caught and charged with breaking and entering and willful intrusion, confirmed Westerly Police Chief Shawn Lacey.

"It was an unusual case in the sense that we found it inside the house," Lacey told Westerly Sun. "We have dealt with a number of complaints at home since its purchase (by Swift), but this is the first time I remember someone who has managed to get into the house."

An investigation determined that McEwan, of Milford, New Jersey, had gone to Rhode Island earlier in the day and was wandering around the house "to find Taylor," Lacey said.

Lacey said McEwan removed his shoes at the door before leaving in search of the famous singer, who was not at home.

"A pair of orange shoes were found at the door where he broke in. When the police asked him why he did not wear them, he told them, "I've always been told that when you walk into someone's house, you have to take your shoes." off, "Lacey said in the sun." He said that he had done it because it was polite. "

McEwan's shod feet did not have any arms, Lacey said.
