Hendrick Motorsports drivers Alex Bowman and William Byron swept the front row of qualifying for the Daytona 500 on Wednesday night, giving the team their sixth pole position in the final seven races of the event.

Bowman took the lead with a 191.261 mph lap to grab his second Daytona 500 pole.

“I think that means a lot to Mr. H – he wants to win it all, like every category, he wants to be at the top of the list,” Bowman said. “Here it’s just a matter of who built the fastest race car. And I think it’s important for Hendrick Motorsports to prove that they are the ones who did that.”

Greg Ives, Bowman’s team leader, put one of his cars first for five consecutive years with Dale Earnhardt Jr. in 2017. Ives has never had a car to start below third since he became team manager of the Cup in 2015.

“We’ve put a lot of time and effort into our speedway program. It’s a demo car. It’s the pinnacle of hotrods that we bring out of our race store,” Ives said. “There is a lot of pride in every part, every car, just from the paint job to the last nut and bolt.” ‘
