Teardown shows what’s inside Apple’s new MagSafe battery

Apple’s MagSafe battery designed for iPhone 12 models was released this week, and Charger Lab took one of the new accessories apart to give us a glimpse of its inner workings.

The disassembly contains detailed information on how the MagSafe Battery Pack‌ works and the role of each component inside. There are two charging coils inside, a shield for heat dissipation and a magnetic ring that allows it to attach to ‌iPhone 12‌ models.

There are two batteries inside which are connected together, with the previously known energy of 11.13 watt-hours and the voltage of 7.62. Each individual battery is 5.733Wh, based on internal labeling.

On the back of the MagSafe Battery Pack‌ there is a large metal plate to help with heat dissipation. Under the heat shields on the front are all the chips that allow the MagSafe Battery Pack‌ to work.
