Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff told CNBC that he supported numerous federal government surveys of advanced technologies.
In an interview Tuesday, Jim Cramer asked the CEO, billionaire, his opinion on what the host of "Mad Money" called a "war on technology": imminent regulatory investigations on a number of large corporations technology, including Facebook, Apple, Amazon and Alphabet. .
"I am so convinced that we are at a stage in our industry where enough is enough and that we need to straighten out the values with these tech companies," said Benioff, who co-founded the cloud services platform two decades ago. .
Benioff denounced what he considers to be "manipulation" of consumers, misuse of data and "serious privacy issues".
Technology giants, including Facebook, have been scrutinized in recent years for their strongholds in their respective industries. The executive and legislative branches of the government plan to introduce into the companies a wide range of investigations into alleged market power abuses.
Facebook has been criticized for its handling of user data, particularly by the British political consulting firm Cambridge Analytica during the 2016 elections. Officials also visited the Apple App Store, where the manufacturer of IPhone collects 30% of most in-app purchases.
The Federal Trade Commission is preparing an antitrust case against Apple and Google, while the Department of Justice could look into Amazon and Facebook practices.
"These values must change, some of these companies must be held accountable for what is happening," said Benioff. "In fact, I think it may be too little and too late. They should be more aggressive. We are following what the European Union is doing."
Benioff said EU regulators are the "leaders" in respect of the privacy of large technology companies, via the General Data Protection Regulation. This is not the first time that the CEO criticizes the technology industry. He has repeatedly said that Facebook is the "new cigarette".
"I mean, there are events in our industry that make me uncomfortable, so let's clean that up," Benioff said. "Let technology have the values we all want, take care of our customers and put consumers first, which is important, in my opinion."
