In recent weeks, Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) has been talking about monopolistic technology websites such as Facebook, Google and Amazon. In his mind, this creates a dangerous precedent of censorship of public debate.
Recently, during the presidential campaign of Warren, advertisements on Facebook spoke about his position on the demolition of the big monopolies of the technology, and in particular of Facebook (yes, it is ironic). The social media giant reacted by removing ads. Eventually, the commercials were restored but the whole debacle proves Warren's point.

And while Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) does not agree with Warren's opinion, he supported it, saying that advanced technologies have too much power to stifle freedom of speech.

For years the Conservatives said that our speech was stifled. They forbade us to make our voices heard, in the hope of permanently silencing us. People who do not agree or use large technologies are often suspended from the website or their interactions / mentions are limited. Think of the number of people who have been banned only from Twitter, YouTube and Facebook. Alex Jones. Laura Loomer. Jacob Wohl. Whether you agree or disagree with their policies, positions or statements, one thing is certain: they have been silenced for not being in accord with the company's leadership.
The reality is simple: we rely on social media and search engines, like Google, to spread our message, no matter what message. We connect with people all over the world world in the hope of engaging them with our philosophical ideals. When the owners of the platforms decide that our thinking process is wrong, we are stifled. And it's a real threat to society.
Having a healthy debate and a discussion is one of the fundamental principles of our country. The censorship speech only divides our country further. If we can not talk to each other (or to a group of people en masse), how can we hear opposing points of view? How are we going to get our news?
Censoring a person's speech, no matter who it is, is a dangerous road. This is how other countries ended up with television and Internet Internet.
