Mr. Major is a new NBC sitcom about a businessman running for mayor in Los Angeles – starring Neil Bremmer is played by The right place star Ted Danson.
The show comes from Tina Fey and Robert Carlock, the main force behind 30 Rock and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. Originally, the series was meant to be a spin-off of 30 Rock who would see Jack Donaghy (Alec Baldwin) running for mayor of New York – but the show changed direction when Baldwin pulled out of the project.
With that in mind, early reviews suggest that Mr. Major isn’t as popular as it could have been, and many reviewers feel disappointed.

“Wan, worn out, predictable, Mr. Mayor feels like a dud in the first few episodes, ”was Newsday’s description.
Rolling Stone mentioned that, “It’s pretty stock material, but Danson is so willing to sound silly, and a physical comedian so precise it’s funny despite the familiarity.”
While TVLine wrote: “The whole effort feels lukewarm and half-baked, with a slim concept and a glaring lack of laughter … The only saving grace is knowing that everyone involved is going to move on. more worthwhile projects. The sooner that term ends, the better. “

Elsewhere, New York Times’ Mike Hale was disappointed with the series after seeing solid lineup for both cast and production talent.
“So far the show is full of lines that are meant to be funny, in a joke-like way, but not quite striking – they have the form of humor but not the strength,” said he declared.
Mr. Major airs Jan. 7 on NBC in the US.
