‘Ted Lasso’, Michaela Coel and Jean Smart among TCA Award winners – Deadline

The 2021 Television Critics Association Award winners have been announced and Ted lasso, Michaela Coel and Jean Smart are among its top laureates.

Apple TV + Ted lasso took first place with three awards, including Outstanding New Program, Outstanding Achievement in Comedy, and Program of the Year Award.

HBO with HBO Max took home four victories at this year’s TCA Awards. Michaela Coel – Creator, Writer, Executive Producer and Star of I can destroy you, —Won the individual achievement in the drama, while the detective drama by Kate Winslet Easttown mare has won outstanding achievements in films, mini-series or specials; Last week tonight with John Oliver won Outstanding Achievement in the Variety, Talk or Sketch categories for the third year in a row; and Jean Smart won Individual Directing in Comedy for his role in Hacks.

“Television was a big hit this year, providing much-needed entertainment that was a welcome distraction from real-world drama,” said Melanie McFarland, TCA President and TV critic for Salon.

“The fact that comedy shows reigned supreme at the 2021 TCA Awards is testament to that,” she continued. “From the folk humor of Ted lasso and the catches of Hacks to the timeless laughter of ‘The Golden Girls’, this season’s offerings have given us plenty to smile about in these uncertain times. We are delighted to honor these exceptional programs as we celebrate the 37th anniversary of the TCA Awards, and we look forward to seeing each other in person in 2022. ”
