A pair of fan favorites Ted lasso the characters will indeed return for Season 3, despite their alleged releases in Friday’s finale.
In an interview with our sister site Deadline, executive producer Bill Lawrence confirmed that the two series regulars Sarah Niles (which first premiered in the Season 2 premiere as Team Psychologist , Dr Sharon Fieldstone) and recurring guest star James Lance (who in seasons 1 and 2 starred The independentSports Columnist Trent Crimm) will be featured heavily in the next 12 episodes.
“I can tell you both have important roles next year,” he said.
The penultimate episode of Season 2 marked Sharon’s departure from AFC Richmond. Ted and Sharon went for a drink on the last day at Crown & Anchor, where Ted overcame Sharon’s previous attempt at an Irish goodbye. Sharon, however, was still in contact with Ted in the next episode. The opening scene featured a voicemail message she left for the club’s coach after Trent’s briefing was posted online.
The finale also revealed that Trent is no longer employed as a reporter. He came forward for revealing a source and was fired by The independent. (Click here for a full Season 2 Episode 12 recap.)
Ted lasso Season 2 ended on a major cliffhanger: after going after Ted, Nick Mohammed’s Nate resigned as Richmond assistant coach and took on a new West Ham head coach job United, newly acquired by Rupert. TVLine spoke with Mohammed about Nate’s transformation in Season 2, which you can read here.
During his conversation with Deadline, Lawrence also projected that Ted lasso Season 3 will air in August 2022, which is in line with the releases of Season 1 (which tilts August 14, 2020) and Season 2 (which debuted on July 23 of this year, in tandem with the Games. Tokyo Olympics).
