A 16-year-old girl was bitten by a shark while boarding Florida, police said.

According to the Nassau County Sheriff's Office, the teenage girl was bitten Friday in the Atlantic Ocean, outside her hotel on the island of Amelia, and she was bitten foot and ankle, reported CNN.

The girl, on vacation from South Florida, went to the hotel's pool, where first responders rushed to her aid, told CNN's Sheriff Bill Leeper of the County of Nassau. She was later sent to a local hospital where she received several stitches.

As of July 11, 45 shark attacks had been reported and verified in 2019, according to Tracking Sharks – 21 were reported in the United States; 8 occurred in Florida.
