Teenager fatally stabbed in a fight after school at the Oceanside Mall in New York

OCEANSIDE, Long Island (WABC) – A teenager was fatally stabbed during a brawl after school in a mall on Long Island on Monday.

Police said the fight, involving up to 50 teenagers, broke out around 3:45 pm. in front of Bagelville on Brower Avenue in Oceanside, a short distance from Oceanside High School. Police said the fight appeared to have started against a girl.

During the fight, Khaseen Morris, a 16-year-old high school student at Oceanside High School, was stabbed in the chest. He was taken to the hospital where he died. A 17-year-old man had a broken arm during the scrum.

An eyewitness, who wanted to remain anonymous, told Eyewitness News that Morris had been ambushed.

"There was a group of people sitting near the Chinese restaurant … about 15 children, then suddenly, while I was talking on the phone, eight, seven or eight children came from the north and targeted some people I think that they were looking for, "said the man.

The police also said that it was a targeted incident and that Morris had received messages stating that he might be threatened when he showed up here.

They are looking for six to seven assailants in different schools and people of interest are in detention.

"I do not think anyone here is connected to the people involved in this incident, I think all players know each other," Det said. Lieutenant Stephen Fitzpatrick of the Nassau County Police Homicide Squad.

The video of the attack that circulates on social media is used as part of the investigation. Police said many children decided to take videos instead of helping them.

Unfortunately, the victim's family also watched the video.

"He was a person who would not help anyone, and no one helped him," said Keyanna Morris, Khaseen's sister.

Keyanna said her brother had escorted a girl home after a party Sunday night, and then began to receive threats. She said that Khaseen would not have expected someone to stab him.

For the Morris family, the moment of Khaseen's death was cruelly ironic.

"He told my mom that it was the first time in such a long time that he was so happy because he had finally found a school where he could be himself without anyone else having it. judge, "she said.

The community of Oceanside High School also suffers from the loss of Morris.

"We have advisors in place to support all our students and teachers, we have contacted the family to let them know that we are by their side and offer them all possible help," said the director. Oceanside School, Phyllis Harrington.

Victoria Lizama, a student, said that the school was calm and that most children did not speak.

"Students are crying in the hallway," she said.

This attack also put the parents on the nerves.

"You know you have to watch more," said Anna Vargas, a parent at Oceanside High School. "My daughter is going to high school, so you have to watch more, where they are going, who their friends are."

It is not known if the incident is gang related. Until now, there has been no arrest.
