A class action brought against a Park Ridge teenager claiming that large tobacco companies and electronic cigarettes are at the root of his nicotine addiction was voluntarily dismissed late Tuesday, one day after his filing .
According to the lawsuit filed Monday, Christian Foss, 19, electronic cigarette maker Juul Labs, tobacco industry giant Philip Morris USA and Phillip Morris' parent group, Altria Group, have illegally sold products and vaping devices to minors without informing them of the risks, in US District Court in Chicago.
Foss, whose complaint says that he began to vape at the age of 16, declined to comment on the lawsuit.
His lawyer, Ken Moll, based in Chicago, refused Wednesday to discuss the reasons for the dismissal of the case. He added that the class action against Juul and the other defendants will be renewed, the other firm's clients in Florida and California being replaced as plaintiffs.
"What we want in this lawsuit is education and information, we want regulations to prevent them from targeting young people, we want regulations for tobacco shops to prevent them from being targeted." 39; prevent the sale (of electronic cigarettes) to children, "said Moll earlier.
This was the second local lawsuit against Juul Labs, based in San Francisco, in one week. Lake County County lawyer Mike Nerheim filed a lawsuit last week claiming the company had deliberately targeted teenagers with a misleading marketing campaign.
