A 16-year-old boy was killed and two other Kentucky high school students were injured after an apparent drive-by shooting in Louisville early this morning.

The three children were waiting for a school bus at around 6:30 a.m. when the shooting took place, the Louisville Subway Police Department confirmed in an email to The Hill.

While the 16-year-old suffered fatal injuries, local police said another 13-year-old boy was being treated at a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. A 14-year-old girl who survived the shooting was treated on site for a minor scrape, police added.

Later that day, Louisville Police asked by tweet that anyone with information about a gray Jeep that was near the bus stop at the time of the shooting alert them.

In a Tweeter, the Jefferson County Public School Superintendent described the morning’s events as “one of the most difficult of our days.”

“We have suffered yet another devastating loss due to the senseless gun violence. Our hearts go out to the family of the Eastern HS student whose life has ended. We give our support to the students,” he added. .

Local police told The Hill that no suspects are in custody at this time.

The incident was Louisville’s 145th homicide in 2021, officials told ABC News.

The Hill also contacted Jefferson County Public Schools for more information.
