Fort Worth, Texas – A 14-year-old girl was sentenced to 25 years in custody after a Texas jury found her guilty of the deadly assault inflicted on her best friend.
The sentence was handed down on Friday, a day after a verdict by a Tarrant County jury in Fort Worth during the 14-year-old murder of 14-year-old Nylah Lightfoot on May 14.
She could have been sentenced to a term ranging from probation to 40 years in the custody of the state. A judge will determine whether to transfer the girl to an adult prison at 19 years of age. His name was not revealed because of his age.
Prosecutors say the girl stabbed Nylah at the neck and chest after a fight in an apartment complex in Fort Worth. The girl was 13 years old at the time of the attack.
