A 15-year-old boy shot dead Monday morning at Watson Chapel Junior High School in Arkansas has passed away, the Pulaski County coroner’s office said, according to CBS affiliate KTHV-TV. The Watson Chapel School District also announced the student’s death, citing his mother’s Facebook page.

The suspected gunman, a classmate also aged 15, was arrested shortly after the shooting, police said. The incident took place inside Watson Chapel High School as students changed classes around 10 a.m., Pine Bluff Police Chief Kelvin Sergeant said on Monday.

The suspect is being held with a first-degree battery in Monday’s shooting and a judge has set the bail at $ 1 million, according to KTHV. The charges should be updated after the death of the victim.

A Facebook post from the school district on Monday said the shooting was an “isolated incident.”

Police said the Arkansas Department of Corrections canine team found the suspect hiding behind a house near the school. At the time, police called the shooting a “targeted incident” and said a motive was under investigation.

The Associated Press said Monday was to be Watson Chapel’s first day back for on-site learning after several weeks of weather issues when the school closed. Pine Bluff is located approximately 44 miles south of Little Rock.
