Julio Teheran defeated defending National League winner Jacob deGrom as the Atlanta Braves defeated the New York Mets 7-3.
The Mets were the first on the board when Tehran left a gear shift over the plate that J.D. Davis lined up center left for a solo home run. However, the Braves responded in the lower half of the inning when Nick Markakis replied with a solo circuit to his right.
Atlanta took the lead in third place while Ozzie Albies led at one stroke and took second, then third ahead of Wilson Ramos' shot in the center of the field. Albies would score on a single from the opposite field of Ronald Acuña Jr., which would take him to 2-1.
The Braves scored another point in the fifth inning when Josh Donaldson lined up a missile on center-left seats for his second run of the season to make it 3-1.
It was more than enough for Tehran, who had total control throughout the match, allowing six hits and one run over six innings. He walked two and hit six. DeGrom has struck nine times in five innings, but he has scored four goals and allocated two more home runs, giving him a total of five licenses in his last two starts.
Atlanta scored two more points in the fifth in a Charlie Culberson home run, hit by two strokes, following Justin Wilson of the Mets. Johan Camargo brought Markakis back to seventh place with an RBI double to take the score to 6-1.
Jesse Biddle ran a scoreless seventh and then lost to Jonny Venters, who eliminated Michale Conforto but then gave a single to Ramos and a double to Jeff McNeil. Venters was then replaced by Luke Jackson, who then allowed Amed Rosario to win an infield single that scored Ramos for 6-2. Jackson then managed to convince Dominic Smith to take off for a second outing in the inning, but then gave up a one-two with Keon Broxton who scored McNeil to put the score at 6-3. After a visit from pitching coach Rick Kranitz, Jackson came back and replaced Brandon Nimmo to escape the jam.
Albies hit again in the ninth when he greeted reliever Mets Jeurys Familia with a triple in the right corner of the field. Donaldson followed with a left-footer who scored Albies to make it 7-3. A J. Minter entered and withdrew the camp in order in the ninth to seal the victory.
With this win, Atlanta improves to 9-6 on the season and recovers a division of his series with the Mets. They will enjoy a rest day on Monday before starting a three-game series on Tuesday against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
