Telegram sends farewell message to Wear OS users as app quietly dies

Telegram says goodbye to Wear OS owners as Telegram’s latest update removes the app from the Google Play Store on Wear OS watches. Telegram is one of the best messaging apps on Android, with the latest update adding a ton of cool new features for users, but removing the ability to do just about everything from the comfort of your wrist.

Whether this is the signal for something bigger to come or the end of an era is not yet clear, but 9to5Google confirmed the move with support from Telegram, who released a statement about the move:

As of Telegram V8.0, the Wear OS app will no longer be available for download. Note that if Telegram is still installed on your Wear OS device, it might stop working soon.

We reached out to Telegram’s PR team to find out why this decision was made and whether it is a permanent decision, especially since the launch of Wear OS 3. While this is highly questionable, there is Still has a chance that Telegram ditched the app as the Wear OS community is waiting for the Wear OS 3 update and might release a new app down the road when the new OS rolls out.

As it stands, neither the Wear OS 2 powered watches nor the Wear OS 3 powered Galaxy Watch 4 can download the existing Telegram app.

This includes an upgrade to the live streaming functionality, which now supports unlimited viewers. Forwarding messages can now be previewed and customized, allowing you to forward only parts of the message or the entire message. You’ll also find a range of new stickers, as well as some on-trend stickers, to spice up your chats.
