Tennessee was supposed to pay the military $ 1.4 million to get to Knoxville, according to a previous agreement signed. But after the work started by the previous staff, the Vols will now pay the military $ 500,000 to exit the game. Tennessee then began work on finding a team to fill the void left by the decision. It has been announced that Akron will now play Tennessee next season in Knoxville and that the university will owe them $ 1,000,000 for the contest.
The Volunteers have also announced the rest of their 2022 schedule. They will open the season with Ball State, before heading to Pittsburgh for the return trip. In an interesting turn of the calendar, Tennessee will face Florida, at LSU and then at home against Alabama. There is a week of “bye” between the Gators and the Tigers.
