Terajda Mitchell’s dad becomes moved when he learns his son is captain of the state of Ohio

Ohio State Teradja mitchell is a name Buckeye fans might want to get used to hearing. Although he’s been in the program for the past three seasons, Mitchell hasn’t been in the field much for the Scarlet and Gray, sitting behind other linebackers. Borland Tuff, Peter Werner, Baron browning and Justin hilliard.

This year is going to be different. These four veteran linebackers have graduated from the program and Mitchell is one of the roster’s longest-serving players. Although he has yet to be named a starting linebacker, his praises have been sung throughout fall camp and it is only a matter of time before he officially receives this honor.

Teradja mitchell is a captain for us “, the head coach Ryan day said Monday when asked for a linebacker who will definitely play in the opener. “He’s going to be on the pitch one way or another. But the majority of these guys are going to play. So this will be something that we will continue to work on in depth, but he is one guy you will see for sure. .

Day Monday’s comments are a good indicator of what’s to come for Mitchell, but another came late last week. As Day mentioned, Ohio State announced the 2021 team captains last Friday and Mitchell was among six nominated who also included wide receivers Chris Olave and Kamryn babb, offensive lineman Thayer Munford, defensive tackle Haskell Garrett and defensive end Zach harrison.

The Buckeyes released the linebacker coach video on Monday Al Washington delivering the good news of Mitchell’s success to his father, Terry Mitchell. To say that Terry was moved when he found out his boy was a scarlet and gray captain would be an understatement.

Washington: Everything is fine. Look, I know it’s been a tough few days, man, but I wanted to share some good news with you. I am next to Teradja. Today he learned that he has been elected captain which is an incredible honor and I cannot tell you how proud I am of him. I know you are. Through it all he has truly become a great young man and is destined for great things. And so I wanted to share this moment with you and I just want to congratulate you.

Mitchell: Oh, that’s cool.

Washington: That’s right.

Mitchell: I’m proud of you son.

Teradja: I like you, dad. I like you.

Mitchell: Yeah. I’m proud of you … I’m suffocating right now, son. Support me. I’m just grateful for you and thank you for believing in him, Coach, and for supporting me when he’s away from home. I’m so proud of you, son.
