Terence Crawford established himself as the world’s best pound-for-pound boxer on Saturday at the MGM Grand Conference Center, stopping Kell Brook in the fourth round of their WBO welterweight title fight.

Crawford, battling out of a southpaw position as he often does, sent sprawling Brook into the ropes in the fourth with a hard right hand hit to the side of the head. Before referee Tony Weeks could come in to call it a knockdown, Crawford landed two more shots.

When the action resumed, Crawford was all over Brook, who was still stunned. He landed a combination and Weeks stopped him at 1:14 of the fourth.

It was a sensational victory over the most gifted opponent he has faced. Brook looked good in the first round and lined up with Crawford, firing big shots.

But Crawford, a notoriously slow starter, picked it up earlier than usual. He started to be successful in the second and third, as he fought southpaw he connected well with Brook.

He was on top at the start of the fourth and was faster and more precise than Brook.

If anyone thought turning 33 would bring some slippage, it wasn’t visible that night. He was strong, fast, precise and in control.

There are plenty of elite contenders for the top spot, but Crawford made a great case on Saturday.
